Dumping wine down the drain to store blood is a crime.

ABC wastes no time pissing off the oenophiles in their new vampire/werewolf/witch bandwagon series "The Gates." Claire Radcliff (Rhona Mitra) needs a place to hide the blood of her fresh kill. Where else but the - rather lavish - wine cellar? Of course first she has to dump a perfectly innocent bottle of wine down the drain. Clearly in this version of the myth vampires have no souls.

This is not how to open a bottle.

This is not even close to the right - or easiest - way to open a bottle of wine. First, the worm (or screw) should be much further into the cork. This cork is synthetic, so it doesn't really matter, but a real cork is likely to break if you only have the worm half-way into it, leaving you with a rather annoying half-cork blocking the way to your wine. Second, that little metal hinged piece is supposed to rest on the lip of the bottle. This turns the corkscrew into a lever and makes removing the cork significantly easier than just yanking with all your might. If you're still confused, check out this video on how to do it right.
