Mike Supple: I'm Mike Supple and you're watching "Screw It" on SuppleWine TV.

The warm spring weather is finally here all around the country, and that means it's time to get outside and catch a baseball game. Which of course means hot dogs and beer, and fortunately the stadiums around the country are more than willing to pump you full of dozens and dozens of microbrew selections. Anything your heart could possibly desire.

So what if you're not in the mood for a beer? Ok, that probably won't happen. But you might end up at a game with somebody who doesn't drink beer. Are they just completely out of luck? Fortunately, no. Most stadiums also have tons of top shelf liquor choices for you, so dig on in.

What? Oh yeah. This is a wine show. Alright, let's see if they have anything wine-wise to help you out at the stadium.

The banner does show wine listed at the top, so that's a good sign.

Mike: What kind of wine do you have?
Vendor: We have BV Coastal Chardonnay or Cabernet.

Well there you have it, your thrilling wine choices: you got white and you got red.

Mike: So I just paid $6.50 for a wine. They said they actually do sell a lot of it. [I taste the wine.] It's not particularly offensive, but what they're selling for $6.50 a glass costs them about $4.00 a bottle. The bottom line is that they're marking up a glass of wine to more than they're spending for a bottle. There's clearly a double standard. They have premium beers, they have a Cuervo bar and high quality food. Somebody cares enough to put thought into getting high quality foods and drinks for everything else. Why can't we get a good glass of wine? Anybody here want a good glass of wine?
[Crowd cheers]
Random fan: I'm with you.
Mike: Have you ever tried the BV Coastal Chard? Not a big fan?
Fan: Um...I'm not a big fan of BV in general. It's a necessary evil at ballparks.

I find it hard to believe that if a stadium can support having dozens of different microbrews and liquors that there's only room for two different wines. If I'm the kind of person who's willing to order a glass of wine in a stadium, I'm also the kind of person who enjoys a little bit of a choice. And if I'm willing to spend $4.00 on a churro or $9.00 on a microbrew, I'm willing to spend $10.00 on a cup of something good when it comes to wine.

Since northern California is in the heart of America's wine country, you'd think the stadiums around here would be the first ones to jump on the trend and realize that they have people looking for wine. Until that happens, I'm going to stick with my good quality beers.

On a side note, I did put the question out to a bunch of my Twitter followers, asking if anyone's ever had a good wine at a baseball game, and I did immediately get several responses. Everyone said the same thing: "Only when I bring it!" So cheers to you. Keep on trying!
