Assistant: Yo Mike! I'm in trouble. I dropped a bottle of wine and the neck broke. I managed to grab it before too much wine spilled out, but I'm a little worried that there might be chunks of glass inside. What can I do? I really want to drink this wine.
Mike: Don't be stupid. My dog likes to eat glass. The last time she did it she spent 24 hours at the vet. Glass splinters in your stomach? Not your friend.
My advice is to call it a day. Toss the bottle and pop a new cork...unless of course you're dating a veterinarian.
Assistant: What if I pour it through some kind of a filter? Like through a paper towel or a sock?
Mike: Right. I'm going to have to stick to my original answer here. For your own safety throw it away.
You could try going through a coffee filter. That would probably get the glass out, particularly if you did it a couple of times. But it would also strip the wine of some of the color and flavor. That defeats the purpose of saving the wine in the first place. Better luck next time.
