Very cool, crisp aromas of green apple with hints of slate and wet stones. Dark, intense lemon on the palate accented by green apple. Bold acidity supports the mid-palate, leading to a sweet cream and flint finish.
Aged in 100% French oak, of which 10-15% is new.

Gorgeous dark salmon color with tons of tiny, persistent bubbles. Dark cherry aromas with orange zest and a touch of slate with a faint lingering hint of honeyed toast. Great mouthfeel - smooth, creamy yet mouth filling bubbles. Dark cherry and strawberry flavors, sweet marzipan and Fuji apple all underlined by a bold mineral streak. Medium flavor persistence.

Maroon core with a thin pink rim. A bit austere on the nose with oak and slate dominating the fruit - a touch of cherry and some orange zest. Fruity on the front palate (mostly red cherries) followed by a hint of smoke and game with slatey minerality and a touch of oak on the finish.

93 / B+
Tasted by Mike Supple - 05 Dec 2008
Dark ruby core with a bright rim. Smells like hot caramel dripped over wet slate with dark red cherry and cassis fruit, spicy anise and a touch of oak. Smooth entry on the palate. Medium to full bodied with big, round tannins. Dark cherries and roasted earth flavors on the mid-palate. Very smooth and elegant in the mouth with a long, silky finish accented by orange zest and cocoa powder. Better to let it age for a few more years, but starting to be approachable now. Will last another 15 years easily.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 05 Dec 2008
Dark purple core with a touch of fuchsia on the rim. Lots of coffee on the nose with some candied cherry, fresh herbs and a touch of smoke and chalk all surrounded by orange zest and cut roses. The coffee continues fairly strong on the front palate, though this is likely to fade and integrate with the fruit over the next couple of years as it ages. Sour cherries, earth and slate are matched by toasty oak on the finish. The tannins are fairly bold and chewy, yet well balanced. Give this one 3 or 4 years to calm down, and it will drink really well for a decade.

90 / A
Tasted by Mike Supple - 05 Dec 2008
Medium ruby core with a bright rim. Charcoal and slate aromas over dusty roses, rich black cherry and a spicy touch of eucalyptus. Big tannins from the front all the way through the back palate. Dark cherry, plum and cassis are underscored by smoky charcoal. Coffee lingers on the finish. Still young and evolving; could get even better with age.
This is a blockbuster of a hidden gem that has managed to fly under the radar thus far. Complex enough to impress any Bordeaux connoisseur, yet priced right for just showing off in front of a few friends. A well made wine that is built to hold up for a while and will keep improving for a decade. Given the hype around the 2005 vintage for Bordeaux, many of the wines have skyrocketed in price, well beyond the value for what they deliver. Fortunately a few, like this one, remain accessible (for now…).
P.S. It’s pronounced “puh-TEET bock.”

Medium lemon-green core with a bright, clear rim. Huge aromatics in the glass. Lots of ripe green and yellow pear with a tropical pineapple hint are all surrounded by plenty of toast, nutmeg and wet slate. Toasty on the front palate with new oak around yellow apple and pear with a core of creamy lemon. Rich and full bodied with great acidity and a spicy nutmeg and cream finish.

Medium lemon yellow core with a bright clear rim. Ripe and tropical on the nose with yellow pear and apple fruits backed by rich mango, nectarine and a dose of wet slate. Impressively round in the mouth with nice full body and rich mouth feel. Pineapple and mango flavors are accented by zesty lemon and lime, all underscored by a good dose of minerals and acid. Round and ripe yet crisp and refreshing. A complex, fun California Chardonnay.

Clear and bright in the glass with a medium lemon yellow core. Good intensity on the nose with ripe yellow apple, candied citrus and a touch of blue slate minerality. The palate presents the same rich ripe sweet yellow apple and pear up front with a nice moderate acidity keeping it crisp and clean. Honeyed notes and a touch of cream, candied lemon and some tropical pineapple and mango notes keep the mid-palate nice and round, and the wine finishes with a medium length of crisp bright fruit. A well made, enjoyable wine great for drinking over the next couple of years.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 14 Oct 2008
Dark purple core with a bright fuchsia rim. Dark aromas of candied black licorice surround rich black cherry and cola leading to hints of vanilla and lingering soft cool slate and blueberry. Very big on the palate entry - this is a huge wine. Tons of dark rich fruit surround nutmeg and cinnamon. Giant ripe tannins support the core of the wine, and are balanced well by clean, crisp acid. Dark licorice gives way to a long lingering spicy dark fruit finish accented by a punch of roasted oak.
Wines from Priorat tend to be very expensive, and many of them are not worth it. If you’re in the market for an $85 bottle of wine, this is fantastic and well worth the price tag.
