Tasted by Mike Supple - 10 Dec 2008
Maroon core with a thin pink rim. A bit austere on the nose with oak and slate dominating the fruit - a touch of cherry and some orange zest. Fruity on the front palate (mostly red cherries) followed by a hint of smoke and game with slatey minerality and a touch of oak on the finish.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 11 Dec 2008
A pale salmon color in the glass, producing very pink foam. Strawberry and toast surrounded by yeast, coconut and gummy peach candy with a wild brine hint. Rich on the palate with aggressive mousse and nice bold acidity. Candied strawberries backed by dark raspberry lead to red delicious apples and a hint of caramel on the finish.
There is no better New Year’s resolution than to drink more sparkling wine - it is not only for special occasions! Finding a rose produced in the traditional method perfected in Champagne at this price is almost unheard of. A delicious, complex and rich sparkling wine that is, most importantly, affordable. 52% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 24 Jan 2008
Dark purple core with a purple and pink rim. Aromas of candied red cherry and citrus zest float over notes of citronella and a touch of earth. As the wine opens, the fruit aromas expand, bringing rich sweet blueberry to the mix. Big in the mouth with nice chewy, dusty tannins. The sweet dark fruits on the front are joined by wet stone, light herbals and a hint of earth. The finish is long, with ripe cassis and red cherry flavors.
A well known classic Napa Cabernet, and a name people will recognize as a quality bottle of wine. Fine for dinner if your girlfriend’s dad is coming over. Otherwise, save your money.

Dark purple core with a vibrant pink rim. White and black truffles support the nice wet earth edge to this leather, black cherry and blackberry beast. Sweeter fruit on the front palate is met by nice minerality in the middle. Long finish of dark cherries and toffee.
Another good example of an Italian wine made in California. These guys know what they are doing. Good quality for the price, and it also has a good hefty bottle that will impress people before you even pour the wine. Sealed with wax, which I find annoying for opening, but looks nice.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 22 Jan 2008
Misleadingly light ruby and pink in the glass – this wine is a big fruity monster. Bright blueberry and cherry aromas with a light citrus zest. On the palate it is rich and full, with good acidity to keep it from getting cloying. Big candied blood orange flavors back ripe cherry and raspberry with a light earthy edge to the lingering fruit.
Grenache can be tricky to work with and finding a well made cheap one is always great. This is the perfect Valentine’s day gift for an ex…

Tasted by Mike Supple - 12 Nov 2008
Medium ruby core with a pale pink rim highlighted with garnet. Deliciously smooth caramel and milk chocolate aromas are accented by light violet scents, all surrounding a dense core of ripe black cherries. Much bigger in the mouth than the nose implies with rich cherry fruit, dark scorched earth and silky milk chocolate flavors. Medium to full bodied with hints of baking spices and a long finish.
Not a typical Pinot Noir, this wine has a lot more power and body which make it great for drinking by itself, but also allows it to pair well with all kinds of foods from lighter appetizers to heavier meat dishes like burgers or t-bone steaks.

Medium bright ruby core surrounded by a lighter pink and ruby rim. Initial aromas of fresh toasty oak quickly yield to sweet cherry and wet earth, all surrounded by cool fresh mint and dark black raspberry. Sweet and lush on the front palate leading to a dark, rich mid-palate. Round and full in the mouth with hints of smoky game surrounding the dark cherry and earth flavors. This is young and just hinting at the complexity that will come with some time. Despite the youth, it is an impressively balanced and elegant wine with a very long, smooth finish.

95% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium density purple and ruby core with a thinner pink rim. Bright red cherries are surrounded by cocoa, tobacco, dusty earth and light metallics on the nose. In the mouth the flavors are somewhat more subdued. Fairly bold tannins, though somewhat coarse and green. Sour cherries, cocoa and chalk lead into the medium length finish.
Too many Chiantis are associated with cheap, bulk wine. Querciabella is a very solid producer, although their 2005 is not as good as most vintages. On the plus side, it is not over priced.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 19 Feb 2008
Very dark purple in the glass with a bright fuchsia and pink rim. This wine is spicy and dense in the nose with anise, new oak and vanilla over big ripe blueberry and blackberry. Dark earth, toffee and a touch of smoky game underlie the fruits. In the mouth this is a lush, round wine with great mouthfeel. Dark, jammy fruits make this wine distinctly Aussi Shiraz, but the balance of the acid and tannin keep it from getting too hedonistic. Rich bittersweet chocolate and vanilla notes linger in the toasty, creamy finish.
More typically Australian with the huge, powerful fruit and color that will stain your teeth (probably not the best way to impress on a first date). With all that fruit though, they manage to make a wine that is well balanced and good to drink. A bit powerful for most foods, but nice fruit and easy to enjoy while sitting on a couch or just hanging around.

Dark black and ruby in the core with a thinner pink rim. Plum, black cherries, sweet tobacco, mushroom and heavy black licorice on the nose. Smooth, with a lush entry and mouth feel. Sweet dark plum and blueberry are supported by a nice touch of wet earth. There is a nice build of tannins and acid on the finish that would make this wine stand up very well to hearty, meaty dishes. 14% Alcohol By Volume
Alejandro Fernandez typically only works with Tempranillo. There is some good spice to this wine, but he has more impressive offerings.
