90/A
Tasted by Mike Supple - 30 Jan 2009
Pale lemon yellow color with a clear rim. Fresh and light aromas of cantaloupe melon and lime with a touch of minerality and some light floral notes. Sweet kiwi and honeydew fruits on the front palate. Crisp, clean, fresh and dry (no sugar) with a medium length finish.
Chenin Blanc (or Steen as it is called in South Africa) can be a very refreshing and delicious wine when made right, and this one from Mulderbosch is a fantastic example. Aside from some parts of France, South Africa is generally the only region in the world that manages to capture the delicacy of this wine, bringing out impressive flavors while keeping it all in balance. This is a great value for South Africa, and a great value for Chenin Blanc from anywhere. A perfect drink before or after a meal, and it goes very well with white fish or vegetable stir fry. (It says “Steen Op Hout” on the label, which in Afrikaans means “Chenin Blanc aged in wood”.)

Tasted by Mike Supple - 08 Mar 2009
Pale gold core with a water white rim. Fresh lemon and yellow apple aromas are surrounded by light toasty oak and vanilla. Very ripe, intense fruit on the front of the palate with so much power that it gives a hint of sweet to the palate. Classic Chardonnay flavors of lemon and apple with a touch of ripe melon giving way to some creamy oak on the finish.

Pale gold core with a clear rim. Light aromas of honeydew, yellow pear and a touch of stone. Nice entry into the mouth - round and fuller than expected from a Pinot Grigio. Flint and melon flavors with a nice concentration of lemon, peach and a touch of cream. Round and lush through the finish.

Medium lemon yellow core with a pale rim. Light and delicate yet very floral with perfumed aromas of candied apricots, white peach, lemon, honeydew melon and a hint of wet stone. Creamy yet not too heavy on the palate. Sweet oak leads to honeycomb, cantaloupe, honeydew and white fig flavors. Fairly low acid, with some nice lingering oak on the finish. This is easy drinking at its finest!
Fear of Chardonnay is uncalled for, particularly when you grab a glass of this little stunner. The region of Horse Heaven Hills has been attracting a lot of attention recently, and one sip of this will show you why: outstanding quality, not too much money. Washington still isn’t getting the recognition it deserves, which is great for consumers looking for the most bang for the buck. This wine takes a more modern approach to Chardonnay with nice crisp fruit flavors and just a hint of cream and spice. Sure to please all white wine drinkers, this is perfect before and with dinner.

Big golden yellow core with a lighter rim. Rich toasty aromas full of honey, white flowers and ripe yellow pear. Toasty on the front palate with a lot of small, mouth-filling mousse. Light melon and apple notes up front lead to dark honeycomb on the back with long lingering toast and wet stone.
If you aren’t familiar with Franciacorta, it is the region which produces many of Italy’s best sparkling wines. They tend to blend with the traditional three Champagne grapes, sometimes throwing in a splash of Pinot Gris or Pinot Bianco. This one is 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Bianco.

Tasted by Mike Supple - 15 April 2008
Pale lemon yellow in color with a clear rim. Fresh ripe juice on the nose with big honeydew and candied citrus backed by a touch of crisp asparagus and flint. The palate entry is fresh and bright with Meyer lemon and sweet melon. A great spicy kick comes in on the mid-palate with a huge fresh jalapeno pepper pop lingering in to the finish. Outstanding spiciness throughout the wine with a flinty finish.
This wine is crisp and fresh, and perfect for a hot 4th of July celebration if you’re not a fan of beer. The ‘06 Arboleda combines some typical Sauv Blanc characteristics of grapefruit and lemongrass. Chile makes a lot of high quality wine at a good price. What makes this one particularly worth the money is the unique Jalepeno Pepper flavor. It sounds weird, but trust me, it’s there. It’s not a dominant flavor, but adds a really cool spicy hit to the fruit. Not overly complex, but well made and more than worth the money!
