Tasted by Mike Supple - 05 Jan 2009
14k gold color. Medium sized bubbles with a medium persistence. Very toasty aromas with roast hazelnut over a touch of caramel and pear. Tons of minerality up front with toasted brioche over green apple, pear and citrus zest. High acid on the mid palate with mouth-filling bubbles. Lingering toast and caramel on the finish.
As this wine ages, the fruit is fading and the nutty, toasty and caramelized flavors are coming forward. A real Champagne drinker’s Champagne.

89 / A-
Tasted by Mike Supple - 05 Jan 2009
Medium garnet core with a lighter rim. Very sweet aromas up front. Cola, black cherry and vanilla give way to lurking dark wet earth, smoke and mushrooms with an accent of strawberry jam. A touch of dill on the front palate with earth and black cherry fruit. Less overtly fruity than the aromas with more structure, dark scorched earth and burnt tobacco. Fairly high acid, and very well balanced overall.
This is a very nice wine, particularly for the 2004 vintage in Burgundy. Many of the wines are harsh and herbal, but this wine has great silky mouth feel and ripe fruit. The so-called “off” vintages are the best ones to find great deals in Burgundy. This is a great price for a well made Premier Cru wine.

Light yellow-gold core with a bright clear rim. Impressively rich aromas. Candied lemon zest, white flowers, wet stone, mango and ripe yellow pear all surrounded by creamy, toasty oak. Smooth and seductive on the palate entry. Yellow pear and apple surround a light mineral core. Nice acidity supporting the fruit and a long toasted lemon zest finish. Fresh, deep and easy to drink.

Pale lemon yellow color. Steely aromas of yellow pear, apricot and toast. On the palate the bubbles are very small and acid is lower, giving the wine a somewhat softer feel to it. Toasted yellow pear flavors.

Very pale lemon yellow in the glass. The nose is somewhat muted. The bubbles are fairly creamy on the palate, yet oddly larger than the NV Carte Blanche. Big green apple flavors lead to candied lemon on the finish.
