Bright ruby core with a garnet rim. Rich spicy plum aromas are mobbed by sweet candied violets, cassis and a touch of green tea and dried cherries. Plums and nutmeg spice dominate the palate. Ripe, round tannins provide plenty of support for the fruit. Finish of plums and black cherries.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep ruby color in the core with a lighter pink rim. Very youthful in the glass with fresh blackberry and cherry surrounded by a touch of currant leaf, toast and mocha. 2008 Calina Chardonnay Reserva

86/B+

Tasted by Mike Supple - 08 Mar 2009

Pale gold core with a water white rim. Fresh lemon and yellow apple aromas are surrounded by light toasty oak and vanilla. Very ripe, intense fruit on the front of the palate with so much power that it gives a hint of sweet to the palate. Classic Chardonnay flavors of lemon and apple with a touch of ripe melon giving way to some creamy oak on the finish.

2006 Arboleda Sauvignon Blanc

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

88 / A-

Tasted by Mike Supple - 15 April 2008

Pale lemon yellow in color with a clear rim. Fresh ripe juice on the nose with big honeydew and candied citrus backed by a touch of crisp asparagus and flint. The palate entry is fresh and bright with Meyer lemon and sweet melon. A great spicy kick comes in on the mid-palate with a huge fresh jalapeno pepper pop lingering in to the finish. Outstanding spiciness throughout the wine with a flinty finish.

This wine is crisp and fresh, and perfect for a hot 4th of July celebration if you’re not a fan of beer. The ‘06 Arboleda combines some typical Sauv Blanc characteristics of grapefruit and lemongrass. Chile makes a lot of high quality wine at a good price. What makes this one particularly worth the money is the unique Jalepeno Pepper flavor. It sounds weird, but trust me, it’s there. It’s not a dominant flavor, but adds a really cool spicy hit to the fruit. Not overly complex, but well made and more than worth the money!

2006 Cono Sur Vision Pinot Noir

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

90 / A+

Tasted by Mike Supple - 01 Jan 2007

Bright, vibrant color in the glass. Very fruit forward aromas of raspberry, red cherries, red cassis and a hint of strawberry are brought together by a touch of scorched oak. Underneath is an intriguing bold aroma of rich blood oranges. Very nice mouthfeel - medium-bodied with great acidity from the front to the back. The raspberry and strawberry aromas are matched on the palate, yet the fruit stays in balance due to the lively acidity. This has a very nice lingering mouth-watering finish, that just screams for food!

An incredibly well made wine for the price. Great drinking now, and a great value. Light enough for sitting around and drinking, but can pair with many light to medium intensity dishes; particularly burgers right off the grill.
